Sir Christophor Charles Fraser Laidlaw (born August 9, 1922 – died November 27, 2010) was an important British businessman. He was known for being direct and spoke fluent German. Sir Christophor Charles Fraser Laidlaw grew up in Cambridge, England. He went to a famous school called Rugby School. Later, he studied Modern Languages at St John's College, Cambridge, which is part of the University of Cambridge.
Sir Christophor's Business Journey
Before joining the oil industry, Sir Christophor worked for a textile company in Manchester for two years. In 1948, he joined BP, a major oil and gas company. By 1959, he was working for Deutsche BP in Germany. He became a managing director at BP from 1972 to 1981. From January 1977, he was the Chairman of BP Oil International. He then became the Deputy Chairman of BP from 1980 to 1981. After his time at BP, he became the Chairman of ICL, a technology company, from 1980 to March 1984. ICL had been created in 1968.
Sir Christophor's Family Life
Sir Christophor was honored with a knighthood in the 1982 Birthday Honours. This means he was given the title "Sir" for his achievements. He got married in 1952 in south-west Surrey. He had a son named Sam Laidlaw, who later became the chief executive of Centrica, another large company. Sir Christophor also had three daughters. He passed away at the age of 88.
