Christos Lambrakis facts for kids
Christos Dimitriou Lambrakis (Greek: Χρήστος Δημητρίου Λαμπράκης; 24 February 1934 – 21 December 2009) was a very important person in Greece. He owned the Lambrakis Press Group (DOL), which was one of the biggest and most powerful newspaper companies in the country.
Life and Work
Christos Lambrakis was born in Athens, the capital of Greece. His father, Dimitrios Lambrakis, was also a famous publisher. The Lambrakis family came from Chania, a city on the island of Crete.
When he was younger, from 1954 to 1957, Christos worked as a journalist for the To Vima newspaper. He also edited a weekly magazine called Tachydromos.
In 1957, when he was just 23 years old, his father passed away. Christos then took over the family business, Lambrakis Press. In 1970, the company became a limited company, and he became the chairman of its board.
Christos Lambrakis became one of the most powerful people in Greece. Even though he was very wealthy and had a high social position, his many newspapers and magazines often supported ideas that were considered modern and fair, especially for people who needed help.
He was also the President of the Lambrakis Research Foundation. This foundation helps with research and learning. He was also the President of the "Friends of Music" Society. This group helped to build and support the main hall of the Athens Concert Hall, a famous place for music performances.
Christos Lambrakis passed away in Athens on 21 December 2009, after having heart surgery a few weeks earlier.
