Chuck Hulse (born October 3, 1927 – died July 13, 2020) was an American race car driver. He was known for competing in exciting races, including the famous Indianapolis 500.

Chuck Hulse raced in a series called the USAC Championship Car series. This was a top level of racing in his time. He competed in 60 races between 1959 and 1968. He even raced in the legendary Indianapolis 500 four times, in 1962, 1963, 1966, and 1967.

A Champion on the Track

Chuck was a very skilled driver. He finished in the top ten in 26 of his races! His best results were finishing in 2nd place twice. He earned a 2nd place finish in 1963 at Phoenix and again in 1966 at Sacramento. These were big achievements in the competitive world of racing.

Overcoming Challenges

In 1964, Chuck Hulse had a serious accident while racing a sprint car in New Bremen, Ohio. This accident caused problems with his vision. Because of this, he had to stop driving for two years, from 1964 to 1966. But Chuck was determined. He worked hard and was able to return to racing in 1966.

Indianapolis 500 Races

Chuck Hulse competed in the Indianapolis 500 several times. This race is one of the most famous car races in the world.

  • In 1962, he started 16th and finished 21st.
  • In 1963, he started 11th and had a great race, finishing 8th.
  • In 1966, he started 8th but finished 20th.
  • In 1967, he started 27th and showed his skill by climbing up to finish 7th.

Chuck Hulse passed away on July 13, 2020, at the age of 92. He is remembered as a talented and determined race car driver.
