Playing in the Negro Leagues
In the 1940s, baseball was different. African American players could not play in the major leagues. Instead, they played in their own professional leagues, called the Negro leagues. These leagues were full of incredibly talented players.
Charlie Wilson Jr. made his professional debut in 1948. He joined the famous Indianapolis Clowns team. He played as an outfielder, which means he played in the large grassy area of the baseball field. He was known for his skills in catching and throwing the ball.
