Kao Chun-ming (born June 6, 1929 – died February 14, 2019) was an important church leader in Taiwan. He was a minister in the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT). Kao Chun-ming was born in Tainan. He is remembered for his strong faith and for standing up for what he believed was right, even when it was difficult.
A Life of Faith and Service
Kao Chun-ming became a minister and dedicated his life to serving his community through the church. From 1970 to 1989, he was the main leader, or General Secretary, of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. This was a very important role, and he helped guide the church through many changes during those years.
Standing Up for Others
During his time as General Secretary, Kao Chun-ming showed great courage. In 1979, there was a big event in Taiwan called the Kaohsiung Incident. Some people involved in this event needed help. Kao Chun-ming stepped in to assist them. Because of this, he was put in prison in 1980. He was sentenced to 7 years but was released in 1984, after serving 4 years. His actions showed his strong belief in helping people, even if it meant facing personal challenges.
Later Years and Public Service
After his release, Kao Chun-ming continued to be an important figure in Taiwan. In 2000, he was asked to be a Senior Advisor to the Office of the President. This meant he gave important advice to the President of Taiwan. He continued to be involved in public life, supporting leaders he believed in. For example, in 2006, he supported President Chen during a time when some people wanted the president to leave office.
Kao Chun-ming passed away on February 14, 2019, at the age of 89. He left behind a legacy of faith, courage, and dedication to his church and his country.
