A Famous Example: Joseph Stalin

On April 3, 1922, a person named Joseph Stalin became the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. His job was to decide who could join the party and what roles they would have. At that time, Vladimir Lenin was the main leader of the country.

After Lenin passed away, Stalin used his position as General Secretary. He gave important jobs within the party to his friends and people who supported him. This helped him become much more powerful than other leaders in the party.
