Chung Ju-young (Korean: 정주영; 鄭周永, November 25, 1915 – March 21, 2001) was a famous South Korean businessman. He started many important companies that are part of the Hyundai group today. These include Hyundai automobile, Hyundai construction company, and Hyundai heavy industry.

Who Was Chung Ju-young?
Chung Ju-young was born in a small village in what is now North Korea. His family was not wealthy. He grew up during a time when Korea was going through many changes. From a young age, he dreamed of doing big things. He wanted to build a better future for himself and his country.
Starting His Journey
Chung Ju-young began his career with very little money. He worked hard at many different jobs. One of his first businesses was a rice shop. He learned a lot about how to run a business. He also learned about working with people. These early experiences helped him later in life.
Building Hyundai
After World War II, Korea needed to rebuild. Chung Ju-young saw this as a chance to help. He started a small construction company in 1947. This company was named Hyundai. The word "Hyundai" means "modern" in Korean. He wanted to build a modern Korea.

Hyundai Construction Company grew very fast. They built many important things in South Korea. These included roads, bridges, and dams. They even built a huge shipyard. This shipyard could build very large ships. These projects helped Korea become stronger.

Chung Ju-young did not stop at construction. He wanted to make cars for Korea. In 1967, he started Hyundai Motor Company. This company made its first car, the Pony, in 1975. The Pony was a very popular car. It helped many Korean families travel. Hyundai also started making heavy machinery. They built ships, trains, and even robots.
