Exploring the Church of la Magdalena
The Church of la Magdalena is a great example of old Spanish architecture. It has a main area called a nave. On each side of the nave are two aisles, which are like side hallways.
Inside the Church
The ceilings inside the church are made with special Gothic vaults. These are arched ceilings that look very grand. Strong supports called flying buttresses hold up these vaults from the outside. Between these supports, you can find side chapels. Each chapel has its own special retablo, which is a decorative altarpiece.
The Bell Tower and Its History
The church's tall bell tower was built in the 15th century. A very important person named Cardinal Cisneros asked for it to be built. He was a powerful leader in Spain during that time. You can see his family's coat of arms on the third floor of the tower. The town's coat of arms is also there.
Special Entrances and Art
One of the church's unique features is the "Portal of the Resurrection." This entrance was built in the 16th century. It mixes two different art styles: Mudéjar and Renaissance. The Mudéjar style combines Christian and Islamic art ideas. The Renaissance style uses ideas from ancient Greek and Roman art. The main altar inside the church was created by an artist named Narciso Tomé.
