The Church of la Santísima Trinidad (which means Church of the Holy Trinity in Spanish) is a beautiful Roman Catholic church. You can find it in the town of Alcaraz, Spain. This historic building was given a special protected status in 1982. It is known as a Bien de Interés Cultural, meaning a "Property of Cultural Interest."
A Look at the Church's History
The church stands in the Plaza del Cementerio. This is right next to the main square, the Plaza Mayor. It is also near the Torres de la Trinidad, which are towers belonging to the city hall.
Building the church started a very long time ago. Work began in the 14th century. The main entrance, called the portal, shows off a style known as Gothic architecture. This style was popular in Europe during the Middle Ages.
Changes Over the Centuries
Even though the church started in the 14th century, its inside has changed a lot. It was updated and fixed many times over hundreds of years. This means you can see different styles inside.
Some parts of the church are very special. For example, the chapel of Don Pedro Primero el Grande is thought to be designed by a famous architect. His name was Andrés de Vandelvira. He was a very important architect in Spain. Another part, the Chapel of St Sebastian, was likely built by his students or people who followed his style.
