The Church of the Holy Innocents is a beautiful old Catholic church in Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York. It's located at 279 E. 17th Street. This church is part of the Diocese of Brooklyn.

The church was built in 1923. It shows off a style called Late Gothic Revival. This means it looks like older European churches. The building is made from strong granite with pretty limestone details.

It has a tall main section called a nave with a pointed roof. There are also lower side areas and parts that stick out, known as transepts. A special area for the altar, called the chancel, is also present. A very tall bell tower stands next to the church.

Right next to the church are two other important buildings. One is the rectory, built in 1923, where the priests live. The other is a school, built in 1914. The Church of the Holy Innocents was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. This means it's a special building worth protecting.

Discover the Church's Music

Music plays a big role at the Church of the Holy Innocents. The church has a very special organ. This organ was built in 1922. It was made by the Ernest M. Skinner Organ Company in Boston.

The Grand Organ's History

The organ is known as Opus 390. It has 3 keyboards, 33 different sounds (stops), and 32 sets of pipes (ranks). In 2005, the Peragallo Pipe Organ Company rebuilt the organ. They made sure it sounded amazing again.

Who Leads the Music?

Since April 2018, Dr. Alfred E. Cresci has been the Director of Music. He actually went to Holy Innocents School himself, graduating in 1968.

When Can You Hear the Organ?

The organ is mainly used during several church services. You can hear it at the Saturday 5 PM Mass in English. It's also played at the Sunday 8 AM English Mass. The 9:30 AM Spanish Mass and the 11:30 AM English Mass also feature the organ.

The Long-Running Choir

The English Adult Choir is a very important part of the music program. The organ helps a lot with their singing. This choir started in 1973. It is one of the oldest choirs still active in Brooklyn.
