Early Life and Music Beginnings
Cindy grew up in North Tonawanda, a town in upstate New York. She started playing the piano first. When she was nine years old, she picked up the trumpet by chance. It was the only instrument she recognized on her teacher's list for school band classes!
She loved playing traditional jazz trumpet in school. Later, she studied jazz at Ithaca College in New York. She also earned a degree in jazz trumpet performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts.
Music Career and Success
Cindy released her first album, Just a Little Bit, in 2007. A couple of years later, in 2009, she joined Trippin' N' Rhythm Records. She then recorded her second album, Bloom, with a famous producer named Michael Broening. Bloom was a big hit!
In 2011, Cindy released Unscripted. A song from this album, "Massive Transit," was co-written by Cindy and Michael. It became super popular, staying at the top of the US Billboard Smooth Jazz Songs chart for six weeks! The Unscripted album itself was also number one on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart for two weeks.
Cindy says that other trumpet players like Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, and Blue Mitchell have greatly influenced her music. When she is not touring or playing at jazz festivals, she works as a band teacher. She teaches at a public elementary school in New Jersey. Cindy is also a longtime vegan and cares deeply about animal rights.
Her sixth solo album, The Little Things, came out in May 2019. Her seventh album, Promise, was released in July 2023.
