Ciudad Altamirano is a city in the Mexican state of Guerrero. It is also the main town for the Pungarabato area. The city is located in a warm region of Mexico called Tierra Caliente. It is right on the border with the state of Michoacán.
The city sits by the Cutzamala River. This river is one of the main smaller rivers that flow into the larger Balsas River. Ciudad Altamirano is about 230 meters (755 feet) above sea level. In 2020, about 25,850 people lived there.
Who was Altamirano?
The city is named after a very important person named Ignacio Manuel Altamirano. He lived in the 1800s. He was a writer and even served as a president of the Supreme Court in Mexico. He was born in a town called Tixtla, Guerrero.
Getting Around
Ciudad Altamirano has a paved airport called Santa Bárbara Regional Airport. Most people just call it Altamirano Airport. It does not have regular flights from airlines. Only local people who own airplanes use it. A small military base was also set up at the airport around 2011.
