Ciudad Cuauhtémoc is a city located in the Huasteca Alta region of the Mexican state of Veracruz. It is the main town, also known as the municipal seat, for the surrounding Pueblo Viejo Municipality. This means it's where the local government for the area is based.

The city's name honors Cuauhtémoc (around 1502–1525). He was the last tlatoani, or ruler, of the powerful Aztecs.

History of the City

Early Beginnings

The first settlement in this area began in the early 1500s. This was during the time of the Conquest of Mexico. A friar named Andrés de Olmos helped to establish the community.

Becoming a City

For many years, it was a smaller settlement. However, in 1980, Ciudad Cuauhtémoc was officially given the status of a city. This was an important step in its development.

Local Government

Like other cities in Mexico, Ciudad Cuauhtémoc has its own local government. The main leader is called the Municipal President. From 2008 to 2010, Tomás Castillo Rivera served as the Municipal President. He was part of the AFV political group.
