Ciudad Frontera is a city in the northern Mexican state of Coahuila. It is located in the east-central part of the state, very close to the city of Monclova. This area is known as the state's central region, or Región Centro.
About Ciudad Frontera
In 2005, about 65,606 people lived in Ciudad Frontera. This made it the sixth-largest community in the state of Coahuila at that time. The city is also the main town, or "municipal seat," for its surrounding area, called the Frontera Municipality.
What is a Municipality?
A municipality is like a county or a local government area. The Frontera Municipality had a population of 70,160 people in 2005. This number includes the city of Ciudad Frontera itself and many smaller communities nearby, such as Ocho de Enero.
Part of a Bigger Area
Ciudad Frontera is part of a larger urban area. This bigger area is called the Monclova-Frontera metropolitan area. A metropolitan area includes a big city and all the smaller towns and cities around it that are closely connected.
