What Was the Civil Disobedience Movement?

In December 1929, a major political group called the Indian National Congress Party decided it was time for India to be completely free from British rule. They planned a special movement to show their strong disagreement with the British government. This movement was named the civil disobedience movement. It meant that people would peacefully refuse to obey laws they felt were unjust.

The Call for Independence Day

The Congress Party made a very important decision: they would celebrate January 26, 1930, as "Complete Independence Day." This was a symbolic day to show their desire for total freedom. Many other political groups and freedom fighters joined in to support this big idea.

Gandhi Leads the Way
