Claes Gustaf Borgström (born 21 July 1944 – died 15 May 2020) was a Swedish lawyer and politician. He worked to make sure everyone was treated fairly. From 2000 to 2007, he was the Equality Ombudsman in Sweden. This important job meant he helped ensure equal rights for all people. He was first part of the Social Democratic Party. Later, in 2013, he joined the Left Party.

Claes Borgström was born in Stockholm, Sweden. He studied law at Stockholm University. In 1974, he earned his law degree.
Career as a Lawyer
After finishing his studies, Claes Borgström started working as a lawyer. He worked on many important legal cases.
Working for Equality
From 2000 to 2007, Borgström worked for the Swedish government. He was the Equality Ombudsman (called JämO in Sweden). In this role, he worked to promote gender equality and prevent unfair treatment.
After the 2006 election, Borgström left his government job. He started a law firm with another lawyer.
Political Views and Changes
From 2008, Borgström was a spokesperson for the Social Democratic Party. He spoke about issues related to gender equality.
In 2013, Claes Borgström decided to leave the Social Democratic Party. He felt the party was changing in ways he did not agree with. He then joined the Left Party.
Personal Life
Claes Borgström's father was Gustaf Borgström. He was a leader of the Swedish Merchants' Association. Claes also had two sisters who were journalists, Annette Kullenberg and Kerstin Vinterhed.
In 2007, he married Märit Borgström in Mallorca. He had three children from an earlier marriage.
Claes Borgström passed away in Stockholm on 15 May 2020. He was 75 years old. He died after getting COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden.
