Claire Field facts for kids
Claire Field is an Australian artist and a person who helps organize art shows. She creates art and helps other artists share their work with the world.
Helping Women Artists: Favour Economy
Claire Field helped start a cool project called Favour Economy. She created it with Bronwyn Treacy and Alexandra Pedley. This project is like a special online space for women artists. It lets them share their experiences and advice through audio recordings. These recordings are called "favours."
The Favour Economy project began in 2015. New audio recordings are added every year as a podcast. Today, Claire Field, Stella Chen, and MX Tonié Field lead the project together.
The Favour Economy has been part of important art events. It was featured in a residency program called Doing Feminism; Sharing the World. It was also shown at the AAANZ Conference in 2018.
The audio recordings from Favour Economy have been displayed in art galleries. Volumes 1 and 2 were shown at George Paton Gallery in Melbourne and AIRspace Projects in Sydney in 2017. Later, Volumes 1, 2, and 3 were part of the ARTBAR event at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia in Sydney in 2019. This event was called Things We Do Together.
Exploring Identity: Site of Passage
In 2019, Claire Field helped organize an art exhibition called Site of Passage. She worked with Tian Zhang on this show. It took place at Customs House in Sydney.
The exhibition featured the artwork of nine Australian artists. These artists included Atong Atem, Cigdem Aydemir, Anindita Banerjee, Liam Benson, Vonda Keji, Nikki Lam, Nicole Monks, Raquel Ormella, and Christian Thompson. Each artist explored their own identity in their art. They looked at how their backgrounds, like family history or where they came from, shaped who they are.
The Site of Passage exhibition was held at Customs House because of its history. For over 140 years, Customs House was the main entry point for people arriving in Sydney. It was a place where many different cultures met. The exhibition also recognized that Warrane (Circular Quay), where Customs House is located, was the first meeting place between the Gadigal people and the British. This meeting led to big changes for Aboriginal people and their cultures.
