Clara Mulholland (1849–1934) was a talented writer. She was born in Belfast, Ireland, but moved to England when she was young. Clara wrote many different kinds of books. She was known for her novels, stories for children, and plays. She also translated books from French into English.

Clara Mulholland's Early Life and School
Clara Mulholland was born in Belfast in 1849. Her father, Joseph Stevenson Mulholland, was a doctor. Clara had several siblings, including her older sister Rosa. Rosa also became a well-known writer.
Clara left Belfast when she was very young. She went to school in England at a convent in Loughborough. Later, she studied at another convent in Coloma, Belgium. These schools helped her develop her love for reading and writing.
Clara Mulholland's Writing Career
Clara Mulholland started her writing career by creating stories for young children. Her first story was published by companies in Belfast and Baltimore.

Later, Clara wrote stories for many different magazines and newspapers in London. She also wrote other books like A Striking Contrast, Kathleen Mavourneen, and Linda's Misfortunes and Little Brian's Trip to Dublin.
Clara was also a skilled translator. She translated several books from French into English. One of her translations was The Little Hunchback by the Comtesse de Segur, published in 1876. She also translated The Power of St. Joseph and Mystical Flora of St. Francis de Sales.
Clara Mulholland also wrote plays. She even worked with her sister Rosa on a book of plays called Bound Together - Six Short Plays for Home and School. This book was published in 1897.
