Clarence Henry (born March 27, 1926 – died February 28, 1999) was an American boxer. He was a very good heavyweight boxer in the early 1950s. Many people thought he would fight for the championship title.

Early Life and Boxing Start

Clarence Henry was born in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in Los Angeles. In 1948, he won the Los Angeles Times Golden Gloves heavyweight championship. This was a big boxing competition. That same year, he also won the national Golden Gloves championship in Chicago. He even beat a boxer from Belgium named Fernand Bothy.

Boxing Career Highlights

Henry was not the tallest heavyweight, but he had a very powerful punch. He became the Heavyweight Champion of California. He also won the Heavyweight Championship of the Pacific Coast. This showed he was one of the best boxers in his area.

In June 1952, Henry fought Archie Moore. Moore later became a world champion. Henry lost this fight, but it was an important match. At his best, Clarence Henry was ranked as the third-best heavyweight boxer in the world.

Retirement from Boxing

Clarence Henry had a great career, but he had to stop boxing. He retired in 1954 because of injuries to his eyes. These injuries happened during his boxing matches.

Legacy and Honors

Clarence Henry is remembered as a talented boxer. In 1998, he was honored by being chosen for the World Boxing Hall of Fame. This was a year before he passed away.
