Clarence William Anderson (1891–1971) was a famous American author and artist. He was born in Wahoo, Nebraska. Most people knew him as C.W. Anderson. He loved horses and drawing them. When he wasn't riding horses, he was busy sketching them. He paid close attention to their bones and how they were built.

Anderson started his career by drawing pictures for other writers' books. But soon, he began writing his own stories to go with his realistic black and white drawings. He is best known for his popular "Billy and Blaze" book series. These books teach young readers about taking good care of horses. They also share important life lessons. Anderson always made sure his information was very accurate. He even wrote a book called Heads Up, Heels Down to help young horse lovers learn how to train horses. All of Anderson's stories were based on real events or people he knew. Only the main plots were made up.

By the end of his life, Anderson had written and illustrated over thirty-five horse books. He also created covers for the famous The Saturday Evening Post magazine. A youth theater in Wilton, New Hampshire, called Andy's Summer Playhouse, is named after him. Anderson was also a member of the Society of American Graphic Artists.
