Claude Holman (born January 31, 1904 – died June 1, 1973) was an American lawyer and a politician. He spent many years serving the people of Chicago.

Claude Holman was an important figure in Chicago politics. He was known for his work as a lawyer and for serving on the Chicago City Council. He represented the 4th ward, which is on the South Side of Chicago.

Early Life and Education

Holman was born in Topeka, Kansas. He went to college at Crane Junior College and then Loyola University Chicago. He studied law and earned his law degree in 1934 from John Marshall Law School. After that, he became a lawyer in Illinois and practiced law in Chicago.

A Career in Politics

Before becoming a council member, Claude Holman worked for two years as a secretary for Arthur Wergs Mitchell, who was a United States Representative. Holman was very active in the Democratic Party.

In 1955, Holman was elected to the Chicago City Council. He served as an alderman, representing the 4th ward, until he passed away in 1973. He was a strong supporter of Mayor Richard J. Daley and the Cook County Democratic Party. Claude Holman died at his home in Chicago from a heart attack.

Starting a Newspaper

In 1964, Claude Holman started his own weekly newspaper. It was an African-American newspaper called the News Clarion. Sometimes it was also known as the South Side News-Clarion. The newspaper was published until at least 1967.

The News Clarion advertised itself as "Chicago’s Fastest Growing Newspaper, Serving Chicago & Cook County Southside." Today, only one copy of the News Clarion is known to still exist. It has 12 pages.
