Claudia Nayibe López Hernández (born 9 March 1970) is a Colombian politician. She served as a Senator of the Republic of Colombia. She was also a candidate for Vice President in the 2018 presidential election for the Green Alliance party. In October 2019, she made history by being elected Mayor of Bogotá. She was the first woman and the first openly LGBT person to be elected to this important position.

Biography
Claudia Nayibe López Hernández is the oldest of six children. Her parents are Elías López Reyes and María del Carmen Hernández Ruiz.
Education
Claudia López studied Finance, Government, and International Relations at the Universidad Externado de Colombia. She also earned a master's degree in Public Administration and Urban Politics from Columbia University in New York. Later, she received a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Career
Claudia López first became known in public life during the student movement of the "Seventh Ballot" between 1989 and 1990. This movement helped create the 1991 Constituent Assembly of Colombia, which wrote a new constitution for the country.
She has worked as a consultant for the United Nations. She has also written for many media outlets in Colombia. These include the radio program Hora 20 on Caracol Radio, the online portal La Silla Vacía , the newspaper El Tiempo, and Semana magazine.
As a researcher, Claudia López investigated unusual political activities. Her work helped to uncover important information about how politics worked in Colombia. She was known for her strong opinions, especially about the government of former president Álvaro Uribe.
López also served as the Secretary of Social Action for Bogotá when Enrique Peñalosa was mayor for the first time. She is also a member of the Inter-American Dialogue, a think tank in Washington, D.C.
Senator of the Republic
In 2014, Claudia López was elected to the Senate of Colombia. She received 81,125 votes as a candidate for the Green Alliance party.
Presidential Candidacy
On 27 December 2016, Senator López announced that she wanted to run for president of Colombia in the 2018 elections. She was the first person from the Green Alliance party to announce her candidacy. After a nationwide poll, Claudia López was chosen as the party's official presidential candidate on 14 September 2017.
Mayor of Bogotá
On 27 October 2019, Claudia López was elected Mayor of Bogotá. She ran a strong campaign focused on fighting corruption. She officially became mayor on 1 January 2020. This was a historic moment because she became the city's first openly gay Mayor and the first woman ever elected to that position in Bogotá. Before her, three women had served as Mayor of Bogotá, but they were acting mayors, not elected ones.

Claudia López was included in the BBC's list of 100 Women on 23 November 2020. This list highlights inspiring and influential women from around the world.
Writings
Claudia López was a well-known columnist for Semana, El Tiempo, and La Silla Vacía. Her research into political issues was published in books like Parapolítica: la ruta de la expansión paramilitar y los acuerdos políticos and Y refundaron la patria: de cómo mafiosos y políticos reconfiguraron el Estado colombiano. In mid-2016, she shared her ideas on how to end the armed conflict with the FARC in her book ¡Adiós A Las Farc! ¿Y ahora qué?.

Claudia López married Representative Angélica Lozano Correa in December 2019.
