Many Clear Lakes in Oregon

When you hear "Clear Lake" in Oregon, it could mean one of several lakes or even a small town. These places are found all over the state. For example, there's a Clear Lake in Douglas County, another in Wasco County, and even one in Linn County, which is shown in the picture above.

Each Clear Lake is unique. Some are natural lakes, while others are reservoirs, which are like man-made lakes. They are also at different heights, from lakes near the coast that are only a few feet above sea level to those high up in the mountains, thousands of feet high.

Why So Many Clear Lakes?

It's common for places to share names, especially simple, descriptive ones like "Clear Lake." Early explorers and settlers often named natural features based on what they saw. If a lake had very clear water, "Clear Lake" was a simple and fitting name. This is why you can find many places with similar names across the United States.
