Clearwater is a small, unincorporated community located in Franklin County, Texas, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but no official local government.

Discovering Clearwater's Past
Clearwater got its name from the very clear water found in the nearby Cypress Creek. People started settling here in the 1860s. The community really began to grow in the 1870s.
By the 1930s, Clearwater had important places like a sawmill, a cotton gin, a general store, and a church. Its population was small, with about 25 people in 1933. It grew to 50 people by 1945. In 1985, Clearwater still had a church, a cemetery, and homes spread out across the area.
Where is Clearwater Located?
Clearwater is located in southern Franklin County, Texas. You can find it along Farm to Market Road 1448. It is about 12 miles (19 km) south of a town called Mount Vernon.
Originally, Clearwater was situated between two creeks: Cypress Creek and Dry Cypress Creek. However, these streams are now part of larger lakes. These lakes are Lake Cypress Springs and Lake Bob Sandlin.

The community of Clearwater had its own school in the 1930s. Today, students from Clearwater attend schools within the Mount Vernon Independent School District.

Movies Set in Clearwater
- The 1965 western film Sons of Katie Elder takes place in Clearwater in 1898. This movie starred famous actors John Wayne and Dean Martin. However, it was actually filmed mostly in northern Mexico.
- The 2003 American Christian film Christmas Child is also set in Clearwater. This movie is based on a short story by Max Lucado called "The Christmas Cross." In the film, a journalist from Chicago travels to Clearwater around Christmas to learn about his past.
