Cleophus Robinson (born March 18, 1932, in Canton, Mississippi – died July 2, 1998, in Saint Louis, Missouri) was a famous American gospel singer and preacher. He had his own gospel TV show that was on air for more than 20 years. Many people called him "The World's Greatest Gospel Singer."

Early Life and Career

Cleophus Robinson was born on March 18, 1932, in Canton, Mississippi. His mother, Lillie, was a well-known gospel singer. Cleophus started singing by himself as a teenager. His first solo performance was at St. John's Church in Canton.

In 1948, he moved to Chicago. There, he sang in many churches. He also performed with famous gospel groups. These included the Roberta Martin Singers and Mahalia Jackson.

In September 1949, Cleophus made his first recordings. He recorded for Miracle Records. He was known as Bro Cleophus Robinson.

Radio and TV Shows

Later, he moved to Memphis. After finishing high school, he started his own weekly radio show. It was called The Voice of the Soul. Around this time, he began working with pianist Napoleon Brown. They worked together for many years.

In 1953, Robinson joined Peacock Records. He released a song called "In the Sweet By and By." After some time, he tried acting. But he soon returned to music.

By 1957, he moved to Saint Louis, Missouri. He became a pastor at the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He served there for over 40 years. He also had a weekly radio show called Hour of Faith. In 1964, he started his own gospel television show. This show became very popular.

Later Career and Hits

In 1964, Robinson released a sermon record. It was called "Solemn Prayer." This record sold very well. He then released a hit song, "How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by God."

He toured Europe, sharing his music. In 1969, he released his biggest hit. The song was "Wrapped Up, Tied Up, Tangled Up." This song was popular with many different audiences.

In 1975, he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. This was a big music event. In 1980, he sang at the White House. This is where the President of the United States lives. In 1986, he released another hit song, "Save a Seat for Me."

Legacy and Influence

Cleophus Robinson was a very important gospel singer. He helped many people through his music and preaching. He was recognized for his contributions to music. He was inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame. His music continues to inspire many people today.
