Cliff played in 396 matches in the English Football League for several famous teams. These included Swindon Town, Plymouth Argyle, Crystal Palace, and Torquay United. After that, he played for Cambridge City in non-league football. Cliff also represented his country, playing for the England Schoolboys team.

Cliff Jackson was born in Swindon, England. He started his football journey in the youth team at Swindon Town. Later, he joined the senior team there. During his time at Swindon Town, he played in 91 league games and scored 30 goals.
In 1963, Cliff moved to Plymouth Argyle. He played 72 matches for them and scored 19 goals.
In September 1966, Cliff signed with Crystal Palace. He played 24 games and scored 3 goals in his first season there. The next season, he played 27 games and scored 4 goals.
The 1968–69 season was very exciting for Crystal Palace. They reached the top division of English football for the first time ever! Cliff played a big part, appearing in 34 games and scoring 14 goals. He was the team's top scorer that season.
