Clinton Derricks-Carroll grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. His mother was a talented pianist. His father, Cleavant Derricks, Sr., was a Baptist preacher and a famous composer of gospel music. One of his father's most popular songs is the hymn "Just a Little Talk with Jesus".
Clinton has a twin brother named Cleavant Derricks. Interestingly, his brother is also an actor!
