Early Life and Family
Clinton Derricks-Carroll grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. His mother was a pianist, and his father, Cleavant Derricks, Sr., was a Baptist preacher and a talented composer. His father wrote the famous gospel song "Just a Little Talk with Jesus".

His Acting Career
Clinton Derricks-Carroll starred in a few TV series. He played Wally Brown in the show Wally Brown (1979). Later, he was Cliff Anderson in Sanford from 1980 to 1981.

A cool fact about his role in Sliders: he sometimes played a "double" of his brother's character. This was a clever way to show two characters who looked alike without using special effects.
In 1986, Clinton performed on stage in London. He played Captain Ebony in a musical called Time.
Besides acting and music, Clinton also wrote a book. In 2005, he published Buy Golly!: The History of the Golliwog.
How He Got His Name
You might wonder why Clinton has a hyphenated name, Derricks-Carroll. He got the "Carroll" part from Vinnette Justine Carroll. She was an acting teacher and director. Clinton studied acting in her workshops for many years. Vinnette thought of him like a son. She suggested he take her name, and that's how he became Clinton Derricks-Carroll!
