Clive Chin was born on May 14, 1954, in Kingston, Jamaica. He is a famous record producer from Jamaica. Clive helped create music for many well-known artists. These include groups like the Wailers and Black Uhuru. He also worked with singers such as Dennis Brown and Lee Perry. Clive Chin was very important in making dub a popular style of music. He is the oldest son of Vincent "Randy" Chin, who was also a music legend.

Clive Chin started working at his father's business, Randy's Record Store, when he was a teenager. This store was a very important place for music in Jamaica. He also helped make Randy's Studio 17 famous. This studio became one of the most important music studios in Jamaica in the early 1970s.

First Big Hits

Clive Chin's first big success was a song called "Java." This song was an international hit by Augustus Pablo. He also had other popular songs in Jamaica. These included "Cheater" by Dennis Brown and "King of Babylon" by Junior Byles. Clive also produced Augustus Pablo's first album, This Is Augustus Pablo.

In 1973, Clive Chin produced an album called Java Java Dub. He believes this was the very first dub album ever made. He continued to have more hits. These included "Miss Wire Waist" and "Fattie Bum Bum" by Carl Malcolm. "Fattie Bum Bum" became a top 10 hit in the UK in 1975.

Later Years and Reissues

After his family's music business moved to New York City, Clive Chin ran a Jamaican restaurant. He did this for about fifteen years in Queens. In 1998, he started producing music again.

In 2007, Clive Chin started a special music label called 17 North Parade. This label is part of VP Records. Its purpose is to re-release some of the classic songs and albums from Randy's Studio. This helps new generations enjoy the historic music.
