The Story of Cloetta
How it Started
The company Cloetta began a long time ago, in 1862. Three brothers named Christoph, Nutin, and Bernard Cloëtta started a chocolate factory in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was called Brødrene Cloëttas steam chocolate factory.
Growing Bigger
- In 1873, Nutin Cloëtta opened a new part of the company in Malmö, Sweden.
- Later, in 1896, another part was opened in Oslo, Norway. This helped Cloetta sell its sweets in more places.
Changes Over Time
For a while, Cloetta joined with another company called Fazer. But in 2008, they decided to become separate companies again. Cloetta then started trading its shares on the Stockholm stock exchange. This means people could buy parts of the company.
In 2011, Cloetta joined with another candy company called Leaf. They became one big company.
New Additions
- In 2016, Cloetta bought a company called Candyking. Candyking sells "pick & mix" candy, which is where you choose your favorite sweets from a big selection.
- This deal helped Cloetta grow even more, especially in the UK and Nordic countries.
Where Cloetta Makes Candy
Cloetta has factories in five different countries. The two biggest factories are in Levice, Slovakia, and Ljungsbro, Sweden.
