The Story of Closplint
A Town Built for Coal
Closplint was originally named Cloversplint. It was created as a "coal town" in 1926. A coal town is a community built by a mining company. Its purpose was to house workers who mined coal nearby. The Clover Splint Coal Company, Inc. built this town. They wanted to dig for coal in the area. The company operated its mines and the town from 1928 until 1946.
How Closplint Got Its Name
The community's name was changed to Closplint later on. This happened when the United States Postal Service set up a post office there. The post office needed a shorter name for the town. So, they shortened "Cloversplint" to "Closplint." The ZIP Code for Closplint is 40927.
