Cloudland is a small, quiet place in western Chattooga County, in the state of Georgia. It is an "unincorporated community," which means it's a group of homes and businesses that are part of the larger county, without its own local government. Cloudland sits high up on a big hill called Lookout Mountain, about 1,498 feet above sea level. Lookout Mountain is a long, wide ridge that stretches across parts of northwestern Georgia and northeastern Alabama. A famous summer camp for girls, Camp Juliette Low, is also located just northeast of town. It is named after Juliette Gordon Low, who founded the Girl Scouts!
History
Cloudland got its start in the late 1800s. Back then, it was a popular "summer resort." This means people would visit it to relax and escape the heat during the summer months. The community was named after a businessman called A.C. Cloud. Cloudland even had its own post office for many years, from 1916 until 1981.
