Cobb, St facts for kids
Cobb is a small, quiet place in St. Clair County, Missouri, in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a settled area that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's usually governed by the county.
History
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? For Cobb, the story is quite interesting! Local history says that the community was named after corn cobs. A farmer who lived there used to feed his animals with corn cobs, and that's how the name stuck!
Before it was called Cobb, this area had a couple of other names. It was sometimes known as "Howards Mill" or "Ritchie Mill."
The community also had a post office for many years. It first opened in 1854 under the name "Howard's Mills" and stayed open until 1886. Then, in 1889, a new post office opened, and this time it was called "Cobb." It served the community until it closed down in 1918.
