Cold Spring Farm, also known as the Peter and Louisa Morton Farmstead, is a historic farm in Todd Township, Fulton County, Pennsylvania. It's a special place because of its old buildings and history.

What is Cold Spring Farm?

Cold Spring Farm is a collection of important old buildings. These buildings show how farms used to look and work a long time ago. The farm has three main buildings that are considered historically important. These are the main house, a spring house, and a slaughterhouse.

The Main House

The main house at Cold Spring Farm was built in 1900. It is a large, two-story building made of brick. The house has a special roof shape called a "cross gable roof." It also has a unique "Palladian window," which is a large window with three parts.

The house features a wide porch that wraps around the building. This porch has wide eaves, which are parts of the roof that hang over the walls. This design gives the house a classic, welcoming look. Its style mixes elements of Colonial Revival architecture and Queen Anne designs.

Other Important Buildings

Besides the main house, Cold Spring Farm has two other very old buildings. These were built around 1850.

The Spring House

One of these buildings is a spring house. It is made of sandstone. A spring house was used to keep food cool before refrigerators existed. It was built over a natural spring. This building also has a second floor that was added later in the Queen Anne style.

The Slaughterhouse

The farm also has an old slaughterhouse, also built around 1850. It is also made of sandstone. This building was used for processing meat on the farm.

Why is Cold Spring Farm Important?

Cold Spring Farm is important because it shows us what farm life was like in the past. Its buildings are good examples of architecture from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

In 2000, Cold Spring Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. Being on this list helps protect the farm and its buildings for future generations to learn from and enjoy.
