The Cole Hotel, also known as the Cole European Hotel, was once a well-known hotel in Fargo, North Dakota, United States. This important building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It was later removed from the list in 2009.

The Story of the Cole Hotel

A New Start After the Great Fire

The city of Fargo faced a huge challenge in 1893. A massive fire swept through the city, destroying many buildings. This included all the best hotels in Fargo.

After the fire, a man named Edward Cole decided to help rebuild. He chose to enter the hotel business. His goal was to create a new, top-quality hotel for the city.

Building a Landmark Hotel

The Cole Hotel was finally built in 1909. It was located at 401-407 Northern Pacific Avenue. This area was a busy part of Fargo. The hotel quickly became an important spot for travelers and locals.

A Place in History

Because of its history and importance, the Cole Hotel building was recognized nationally. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 9, 1983. This list includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history.

However, the hotel was later removed from this list. This happened on October 21, 2009. Even so, the Cole Hotel remains a part of Fargo's interesting past.
