How Did College Mound Begin?
The community of College Mound was officially planned out in 1854. This process is called "platting," which means someone drew maps to show where streets and building lots would be. The area got its name from a school that was nearby, called McGee College.
A post office was opened in College Mound in 1858. Post offices were very important back then for people to send and receive letters and packages. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1973.
