The Colliding Rivers is a special place in Glide, Oregon. It's where two rivers, the Little River and the North Umpqua River, meet. This spot is about 12 miles (19 km) east of Roseburg. It's called Colliding Rivers because the two streams crash into each other almost head-on. This is the only place in Oregon where a river meets its smaller tributary at such a straight angle.

Before they meet, the Little River flows in from the south. The North Umpqua River makes a sharp turn. Then, it connects with the Little River in a very unique way.

Where to Find Colliding Rivers

The Colliding Rivers area is located on the west side of the town of Glide. You can reach Glide by taking Oregon Route 138. If you are coming from the west, you can connect to Route 138 from Interstate 5. From the east, you would use U.S. Route 97.

Along Route 138, there is a rest area and a viewpoint. This spot is right next to the Colliding Rivers Visitor Center. Here, you can find restrooms and helpful signs. These signs explain more about the area and its amazing natural features.

Exciting Whitewater Rapids

The Colliding Rivers area is a narrow part of both rivers. This is because of several large rock formations that squeeze the water. Within about 5 miles around the Colliding Rivers point, the rivers flow in many straight sections. These sections lead to exciting rapids.

These rapids are known as "Class 2" and "Class 2+" pool drop rapids. This means the water drops over rocks into calm pools. You can often see standing waves that are 2 to 3 feet tall. These are waves that stay in one place as the water flows past them.
