Colm Ó Cíosóig's Music Career
Playing with My Bloody Valentine
My Bloody Valentine started in 1983. The band changed members a few times before finding their special sound. This sound became known as "shoegazing" in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Colm Ó Cíosóig's drumming was a key part of the band's music. His energetic style, with lots of snare drum, mixed well with Kevin Shields' guitar and Bilinda Butcher's dreamy singing. Colm also helped write songs and produce music for My Bloody Valentine.
When the band was recording their album Loveless in 1991, Colm had some health issues. This made it hard for him to play drums as much as usual. So, he played what he could, and those drum parts were recorded and put together for the album. He played live drums on two songs, "Only Shallow" and "Come In Alone." He even performed the song "Touched" all by himself.
My Bloody Valentine took a break starting in the early 1990s. During this time, Colm worked on many other music projects. He played with different musicians and made guest appearances on their songs.
In November 2007, Colm Ó Cíosóig rejoined My Bloody Valentine. He has been playing with Kevin Shields, Debbie Googe, and Bilinda Butcher ever since.
Working with Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions
Outside of My Bloody Valentine, Colm Ó Cíosóig is well-known for his work with Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions. He helped write, produce, and play many instruments on their 2001 album, Bavarian Fruit Bread.
Their second album, Through the Devil Softly, came out on September 29, 2009. Colm also went on tour with Hope Sandoval's other band, Mazzy Star, in 2012.
Other Musical Adventures
Colm Ó Cíosóig has been involved in several other music projects. In 1994, he produced music for an album called Wreckage by an artist named Stano. He also played "sampled keyboards" on that album.
In 1997, he was a guest musician on an album called Fire in a Dream Cage by an artist known as L. Colm was also credited for "Digital Editing" on Laika's 1995 album, "Silver Apples of the Moon".
He formed a band called Clear Spot with Stereolab bassist Simon Johns. They released a single called Moonman Bop in 1998.
In 2004, Colm played drums as a guest on Vetiver's album. In 2005, he worked with Le Volume Courbe on their debut album. He was also a guest musician on Film School's 2007 album, Hideout.

Colm Ó Cíosóig also recorded songs for The Tigerbeat. This band is based in San Francisco and includes his sister, Fionnuala.
