Colm Ó Cíosóig's Music Career
Colm Ó Cíosóig has been making music for many years. He is known for his unique drumming style and for helping to create new sounds in rock music.
Playing with My Bloody Valentine
The band My Bloody Valentine started in 1983. Over time, they found their special sound, which music critics later called "shoegazing." This name came from how musicians often looked down at their guitar pedals while playing.
Colm Ó Cíosóig's powerful drumming, along with Kevin Shields' guitar and Bilinda Butcher's singing, became a key part of the band's sound. He also helped write songs and produce music for My Bloody Valentine.
When they were recording the album Loveless in 1991, Colm had some health problems. This made it hard for him to play drums as much as usual. So, he played what he could, and those drum parts were then used and changed to create the album's sound. He played live drums on two songs, "Only Shallow" and "Come In Alone." He even performed the song "Touched" all by himself.
My Bloody Valentine took a break from the early 1990s. During this time, Colm worked with many other musicians and appeared as a guest on their songs.
In November 2007, he rejoined My Bloody Valentine. He is still playing with the band today, along with Kevin Shields, Debbie Googe, and Bilinda Butcher.
Working with Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions
One of Colm Ó Cíosóig's most well-known projects outside My Bloody Valentine is with Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions. He helped write, produce, and play different instruments on their 2001 album, Bavarian Fruit Bread.
Their second album, Through the Devil Softly, came out in 2009. Colm also toured with Hope Sandoval's other band, Mazzy Star, in 2012.
Other Music Projects
Colm Ó Cíosóig has worked on many other interesting music projects. In 1994, he helped produce an album called Wreckage for an artist named Stano. He also played "sampled keyboards" on it.
In 1997, he was a guest musician on an album called Fire in a Dream Cage by a band named L. He also helped with "Digital Editing" for Laika's first album, "Silver Apples of the Moon" in 1995.
He formed a band called Clear Spot with Stereolab bassist Simon Johns. They released a single called Moonman Bop in 1998.
In 2004, Colm played drums as a guest on Vetiver's album. In 2005, he worked with Le Volume Courbe on their first album. He was also a guest musician on Film School's 2007 album, Hideout.
