The Colonial Quarter is a fun and historical place located in St. Augustine, Florida. It was once known as the Colonial Spanish Quarter. After a big renovation, this exciting site reopened in March 2013. It's a great spot to learn about history and enjoy live music.

A Look Back: The Colonial Quarter's Past

The Colonial Spanish Quarter first opened in 1963. It was a "living museum." This means it showed what life was like in St. Augustine in the 1740s. During that time, Spain ruled the area. Most people living there were from Spain or had Spanish family.

This living history museum operated for many years. It was on a two-acre site. The University of Florida owned the land. The City of St. Augustine helped manage it. The museum closed its doors in the fall of 2011.

New Name, New Fun: How the Colonial Quarter Changed

In September 2012, a new agreement was made. Colonial Quarter LLC took over the site. This company is owned by Pat Croce. He also owns the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum nearby.

Work quickly began to update the area. The name was changed to Colonial Quarter. The word "Spanish" was removed. By November 2012, signs announced a spring 2013 opening. The new Colonial Quarter officially opened on March 16, 2013.

Since its reopening, the Colonial Quarter has become very popular. It is now one of St. Augustine's best places for live music. It has an outdoor stage and picnic tables. Trees and lanterns make it a cozy spot. Local bands often perform here every night.
