A Look Back: The History of Columbus

Columbus has an interesting past. It was once the county seat for Johnson County. This means it was the main town where the local government offices were located. The area where the town would be built was officially planned out in 1836. This process is called platting.

A post office served the community of Columbus for many years, from 1837 until 1920. The community was named after the famous explorer, Christopher Columbus.
