What is a Trade Union?
A trade union is like a team for workers. It brings many workers together to speak with one voice. This helps them get fair pay, good working conditions, and safe workplaces. Unions work to protect workers' rights and improve their jobs.
How CEPU Was Formed
The CEPU was created by joining three different unions together. This is called an amalgamation. These three groups became parts, or "divisions," of the CEPU. They are:
- Communication Workers Union of Australia (CWU)
- Electrical Trades Union of Australia (ETU)
- Plumbing Trades Employees Union (PTEU)
Even though they are now one big union, each of these divisions still works quite independently. They share resources when they need to. In some states, these unions even act completely separately.
CEPU's Connections
The CEPU is connected to the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). The ACTU is the largest group of unions in Australia. Being part of the ACTU means the CEPU is part of an even bigger team. This helps them work together on important issues for all Australian workers.
