The Como neighborhood is a historic community located on the west side of Fort Worth, Texas. It was named after Como, Italy, a beautiful place known for its lake. Como is especially known as a historically African-American neighborhood.
The Como Lake was built way back in 1889. The area was first planned to be a fun resort destination. In the early 1900s, a famous entertainer named Lillian Russell even visited the resort and really liked it!
A local newspaper, the Lake Como Weekly, kept the community informed. It was published under different names from 1940 to 1986. This shows how important local news was to the neighborhood.
From the 1960s to the 1990s, the Como community faced some challenges. However, things have improved a lot since then. The west side of Fort Worth has seen a big economic boom. The City of Fort Worth has also made many important improvements to the area.
Thanks to these changes and the hard work of many people, Como is now a thriving home. It is a welcoming place for African-Americans, Hispanics, and many other families.
