Company of Angels facts for kids
The Company of Angels, often called CoA, is a famous American theatre company. It started in Los Angeles way back in 1959. This group is the oldest not-for-profit theater company in Los Angeles. This means they use any money they earn to support their shows and help the community, rather than giving it to owners.
The company was officially started by a lawyer named Bertram Fields. Some of the first actors included well-known names like Richard Chamberlain, Leonard Nimoy, Vic Morrow, and Vic Tayback. Over the years, Company of Angels has won many awards for their amazing plays. These include the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award and the Ovation Award. The company has been able to keep going thanks to its members.
Where Company of Angels Has Been
The very first theater for the Company of Angels was in Hollywood, Los Angeles. It was located on Vine Street and Waring Avenue. Sadly, a fire destroyed that building on April 27, 1988.
After the fire, the company found a new home in 1989. They moved to the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles. Their new spot was at 2106 Hyperion Avenue, which is now the Lyric Hyperion Theater Cafe.
About seventeen years later, Company of Angels moved again. This time, they went to the exciting downtown Los Angeles area. After a short time at The Grand Avenue Club, Company of Angels found its current home. Today, you can find them in the historic Alexandria Hotel at 501 S. Spring Street in Downtown Los Angeles. Their theater is located above the beautiful Palm Court.
