Concha Alós (born May 22, 1926, died August 1, 2011) was a famous Spanish writer. Her full name was María Concepción Alós Domingo. She won a very important award for writers called the Premio Planeta de Novela. This award is one of the biggest literary prizes in Spain.
Her Life Story
Concha was born in Valencia, Spain. She spent most of her life living in Barcelona. She started her writing career in 1962 with her first novel, Los Enanos. The next year, she published Los cien pájaros.
Her early books were very popular. In 1964, she won the 13th Premio Planeta de Novela for her novel Las hogueras. This made her even more well-known. Her last novel, El asesino de los sueños, was published in 1986.
Concha spent some of her childhood in Castellón de la Plana. Her family was working-class and supported the Republic. During the Spanish Civil War, her family had to move. They went to Lorca in Murcia to escape war attacks. This experience of moving because of war inspired her novel El caballo rojo.
She was married to Baltasar Porcel, who was also a writer and journalist. They met when he worked at a newspaper that her first husband owned. Concha also helped translate some of Baltasar's books from Catalan to Spanish. Later, both writers got divorced.
Her writing style was very realistic. She often wrote about social issues and what life was like for people. Because of this, she sometimes had problems with the government's rules about what could be published. This was known as Francoist censorship. Even with these challenges, many of her books were bestsellers in the 1960s and 1970s.
