When Conchita was a teenager, she moved from her home region of Andalusia to Madrid, Spain's capital city. There, she quickly became known as an actress, appearing in several movies during the 1950s. At the same time, she became famous for singing traditional Andalusian music. This led to her getting a recording contract with the Columbia music company.

Conchita Bautista and Eurovision

First Eurovision Appearance (1961)

In 1961, Conchita Bautista took part in the competition to choose Spain's very first song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song, "Estando contigo" ("Being with You"), was chosen to represent Spain.

The sixth Eurovision Song Contest was held in Cannes, France, on March 18, 1961. Conchita's song "Estando contigo" was the very first song performed in the contest that year. At the end of the voting, her song placed ninth out of 16 countries.

Second Eurovision Appearance (1965)

In 1965, Conchita Bautista was chosen again to represent Spain at Eurovision. This time, her song was "Qué bueno, qué bueno" ("How Good, How Good"). The contest took place on March 20 in Naples, Italy.

Unfortunately, "Qué bueno, qué bueno" did not receive any points from the judges. This meant Spain got "nul points" (zero points) for the second time in Eurovision history. Other countries like Germany, Belgium, and Finland also received zero points that year.
