Location Cleburne, Texas

The Confederate Memorial Arch is a special monument located in Cleburne, Texas. It was built to remember people connected to the Confederacy. The Confederacy was a group of southern states that separated from the United States during the American Civil War. This arch stands at the edge of the Cleburne Memorial Cemetery.

Why Was the Arch Built?

In 1894, a couple named Ann and C.Y. Kouns gave land for a park. This park was meant for the local United Confederate Veterans. These veterans were former soldiers who had fought for the Confederacy.

Later, in 1922, a group called 'The Confederate Memorial Park Committee' was formed. Their goal was to create a special memorial for the Confederate soldiers buried in the cemetery.

The archway was designed with a unique idea in mind. It was angled so that a large Confederate Battle Flag could be created on the ground nearby. However, this flag design was never actually built. The construction of the arch itself was finished in 1922.
