Conicville is a small community in Shenandoah County, Virginia. It's called a "census-designated place," which means it's an area the government tracks for population, but it's not an official town or city.
Conicville is located where two roads meet: State Route 42 and Conicville Road. It used to be known as Cabin Hill. At one time, Cabin Hill had about 22 homes, a church, and a few businesses. The area sits on a ridge called Cabin Hill, near Swover Creek. The elevation here is about 1,256 feet above sea level.
History of Conicville
Conicville, also known as Cabin Hill, was settled in the mid-1700s. The first European settlers were mainly immigrants from Switzerland and Germany. They traveled through Pennsylvania to reach this part of Virginia.
At that time, this area was part of Frederick County. As more people moved in, a new county called Dunmore County was created. Later, Dunmore County was renamed Shenandoah County, which is what it's called today.
