Connie Christie (born January 31, 1908 – died June 3, 1989) was a talented artist and writer. She was born in England but later moved to Australia. Connie became very well-known for writing and illustrating many wonderful books especially for children. By the 1950s, her books were incredibly popular, selling over one or two million copies!

Connie Christie's Creative Journey

Connie Christie had a fascinating career where she used her artistic skills in different ways. She started out as a commercial artist, which means she created art for businesses.

Her Early Work as an Artist

Connie's first job was with a company called Val Morgan. This company made advertisements for cinemas. Imagine seeing her artwork on the big screen before a movie!

Later, she worked for G. J. Coles Pty Ltd, which was a big chain store company. She worked there for 18 years! During her time at Coles, Connie designed the company's logo. She became so famous for her work there that people even called her the "Coles Orchid."

Writing and Illustrating Books for Kids

In 1939, Connie Christie wrote and illustrated her very first book. It was called The Adventures of Pinkishell. This book was special because it was believed to be Australia's first children's book about mermaids!

From 1940 to 1950, Connie also wrote and illustrated The Connie Christie Annual. This was a yearly book, probably filled with new stories and pictures. Over her career, she created about 50 books. These books included fun nursery rhymes and exciting fantasy stories that captured the imaginations of many young readers.
