Connie Egan's Journey in Politics
Starting as a Councillor (2019-2022)
Connie Egan began her political journey as a Councillor. She was elected for the Bangor West area in the Ards and North Down Borough Council. This happened during the local elections in 2019.
She received the most votes in her area. She also became the youngest woman ever elected to that council. Before becoming a Councillor, she worked for another Alliance Party MLA, Chris Lyttle. She helped him with his work in the Assembly.
Becoming an MLA (2022-Present)
In the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election, Connie Egan ran for a seat in the Assembly. She ran alongside Andrew Muir, another Alliance candidate. The Assembly is where laws are made for Northern Ireland.
Connie Egan won her seat in the North Down area. This meant she became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). She took a seat that was previously held by the Green Party. This election helped the Alliance Party gain more support in that area.
