Consumer facts for kids
A consumer is a person or group that buys and uses goods (like food or clothes) and services (like a haircut or a bus ride). They are very important in how our economy works!
What is a Consumer?
A consumer buys things to use them, not to sell them again. For example, when you buy a new video game, you are a consumer. You pay money for the game, and then you play it.
Consumers are the final users of products and services. They help businesses know what to make and how much to charge.
Why Consumers are Important
Consumers play a huge role in the economic system of a country. Imagine if no one wanted to buy anything! Businesses would have no reason to make products.
When consumers want to buy things, it creates demand. This demand encourages producers (the people or companies who make things) to create more goods and services. Producers make things mainly to sell them to consumers.
Consumers are also the last step in the chain of distribution. This is the path a product takes from where it's made to where it's used.
